West New York Middle School


Background

Designated by the State of New Jersey as an “Abbott” school district, this new middle school in West New York was constructed as part of the NJSDA school construction program to provide upgrades school facilities in urban areas.

The Challenge

The urban site for this 192,000 square foot steel frame structure was provided a challenge due to its tight site constraints and urban location. The exterior of this building was constructed of brick and ground face CMU. The interior walls were constructed of masonry and abusive resistant high impact drywall.

Our Solution

This new facility contains classrooms, science laboratories, a gymnasium, an auditorium, cafeteria, an exterior synthetic turf football/soccer athletic field, a six lane running track and bleachers. The entry atrium is of particular interest due to the architectural features that were incorporated to make an impression to all of those who pass through the main entrance into the school.
